I have had some success using a Macintosh 5260 as a LTSP client.

What I did:

  1. Downloaded and installed Skip Gaede's Contribution to LTSP.org
  2. Put the MkLinux boot stuff on the client along with the uncompressed kernel. I didn't feel like trying to download the kernel from the server.
  3. This was just on a test system, so I editted the dhcpd.conf file to point to the correct folder for the ppc stuff (instead of i386).
  4. I turned on the 5260 and it WORKED! I was shocked.

Upon further testing I think I just got lucky. The problem is the network card. This test machine had a Macsense Nubus network card. I then tried it with a commslot card and couldn't get it to work.

Unfortunately, performance isn't good at all, the machines I/O is just too crappy

My next test will be with a 5400 this summer.
