                Release Notes for K12LTSP 4.2.0

What's new:

  • K12LTSP 4.2.0 is based on Fedora Core 3. Be sure to read the FC3 
 release notes at http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc3/x86/
  • The installer media check has been turned off by default. This check 
 does not work if the ISO were burned on a 2.6.x kernel without
 being "padded" (i.e. the "-pad" option in cdrecord). If you want to
 run the media check, you may still do so by specifying the following
 at the CD boot prompt:

     linux mediacheck
  • K12LTSP "meta" packages are now included. These are "empty" packages 
 that contain dependancies for all of the packages in a particular
 group. This makes it easy to install a group of packages by
 specifying only the meta package. For example "yum install k12ltsp-core"
 would install off the core K12LTSP packages. Meta packages included
 are:
       k12ltsp-core
       k12ltsp-education
       k12ltsp-education-devel
       k12ltsp-extras
       k12ltsp-scripts
       k12ltsp-utils


  • Tuxpaint now has a graphical configuration utility: tuxpaint-config
  • The up2date and yum packages no longer need to be modified 
 to included the K12LTSP repository information. These config
 files are now in the fedora-release and k12ltsp-release
 packages
  • The up2date and yum repositories are now mirrored at the 
 University of Tennessee at Knoxville
  • The default web browser has changed from Mozilla to Firefox. 
 Firefox as been modified to use the K12LTSP bookmarks.
  • The LTSP Build Environment (ltsp_i386-lbe) is no longer 
 included on the install CDs in order to free up some space.
 Use apt, up2date, or yum if you wish to install it.
