It's hard to believe, but it was only 336 days ago that K12LTSP version 1.0 was released. We've come an incredibly long ways over the last eleven months.

K12LTSP version 2.1.0 is now officially available for download. See http://k12ltsp.org/download.html for details.

K12LTSP version 2.1.0 offers several improvements over the previous release, version 2.0.2.

First, it is based on Red Hat 7.3. Red Hat 7.3 includes all of the latest and greatest applications and utilities. Of particular interest is KDE version 3.0, which has proven to be quite popular.

K12LTSP 2.1.0 incorporates the updates that are available for Red Hat 7.3, including: evolution, fetchmail, modpython, mozilla, nssldap, and perl-Digest-MD5. Further updates, including the kernel and sane, are available through the Red Hat Network.

The second major improvement revolves around the Red Hat Network. Much work has been poured into making K12LTSP as compatible with the Red Hat Network as possible.

A number of small additional changes were made for 2.1.0.

K12LTSP 2.1.0 supports floppy access from KDE, although it is not activated by default - it is known to crash some terminals. To activate floppy support on the terminals, just uncomment the "RCFILE_01 = floppyd" line at the top of /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf.

Gtypist, an advanced typing tutor has been added. OpenOffice, bluefish, and file-roller have all been updated.

Two new system packages have been included: IceWM, a lighter weight window manager, and rfb, a specialized VNC server that lets one broadcast their desktop to multiple users.

K12LTSP 2.1.0 includes all of the added utilities in v2.0.0 as well, such as the squidGuard web filter and rdesktop, a windows 2000 terminal services client.

K12LTSP includes the LTSP version 3.0, which as the same as v2.0.0.

Two non-GPL packages were removed: java and acroread. Links are provided on the root user's desktop which will fetch and install these packages.
