<Sample Letter from school to Linux User Group asking for support>

<Your letterhead here...>

June 2, 2002

Dear LUG,

I am the principal of Anytown School. I understand that your user group is interested in establishing relationships with local schools to offer free support for using technology in education. Our school is interested in this kind of partnership.

Like many schools we have a limited budget. We are interested in using open source software because we've heard that it is free and reliable. We would need help in evaluating our current software situation and understanding how we could benefit from using free software in our school.

We have several teachers who are interested in technology but we would need training and support to be successful in using new software. We may also have constraints on what we can do on our network based on District standards so I can't say that we will be able to implement all of the suggestions your group would make but we are interested in exploring new technology solutions.

I understand that there is free software for schools on the K12OS.org web page that we might be able to use. We're not sure what will work in our building or on our computers but we want to learn more. Please contact me about setting up a time for an initial discussion.

Your interest in our school and willingness to help are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Principal Contact info here...  ;-)
